WELCA February Meeting Minutes

Gloria Gordon, JLLC WELCA Coordinator, while at the home of Judy Trubenbach , called the 7 p.m. meeting of the JLLC WELCA to order. Seven members were present. Pastor John Hanson was present to provide our Bible Study. The ELCA Purpose and Mission Statements were read.

The Secretary’s minutes of January 7, 2010 were read. Gayle Heggem moved and Paulette Ojanen seconded that the minutes be approved. Motion Carried Unanimously (hereafter MCU).

The Treasurer’s Report was presented by Penny Smeby. The ending checkbook balance is $1,799.79. The Saving Account Balance is $1,523.35.

Old Business:

Judy Trubenbach reported and showed us the DVD/VHS player that she purchased. Pastor Hanson will store the player at the Parsonage until someone wants to use it.

Gloria Gordon passed around several thank you notes from members and friends of JLLC.

New Business:

Living Waters Conference will be on Saturday, March 18, 2010 at Salem Lutheran Church in Longville, MN

Soup Suppers will begin on February 24, 2010 at 6 p.m. at JLLC followed by a worship service in the Fellowship Hall. Ash Wednesday is February 17, 2010 at Suomi (no Soup Supper). The next Soup Supper will be held at Suomi on March 3, 2010.

Salad Luncheon discussion took place. Judy Trubenbach will be the coordinator for this event to be held on July 21, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marcell Family Center. Crafters will come from 10-2 p.m.

Health Kits are needed for Haiti. JLLC WELCA will buy items to place in kits. Confirmation class will put them together at their March 7th gathering. The JLLC members can purchase items and place them in the boxes provided until March 4th. This notice will be placed in the Bulletin.

Rhonda Nichols looked into the purchase prices of various appliances for the new kitchen and presented a copy of her results to Karen Lind (for the Building Committee). A discussion for prioritizing focused on two range hoods for $50.00 each and a refrigerator/freezer: 25 cu feet for $1500.00 and 20 cu ft for $950.00. A microwave , stove, convection oven/range and counter dishwasher were put on hold.

A fundraising discussion took place. Thoughts centered on trying something new and easy like spaghetti or chili feed occurred. Also mentioned was during fishing opening create lunches of sandwiches, chips and lemonade selling them around Hayslips Corner—when tourists would buy their bait and gas.

Minga Elftmann, Sunday school teacher called Judy Trubenbach and inquired about helping WELCA put fruit baskets together or making cards for the baskets on March 14, 2010.

Gloria Gordon offered to purchase supplies for the church until Sandi Partlow has recovered from her surgery.

The meeting adjourned with The Lord's Prayer.

Pastor John Hanson led an excellent Bible Study based on the theme of Practicing Forgiveness.
