WELCA April Minutes

Coordinator, Gloria Gordon opened the meeting together with all of us as we read the Purpose and Mission Statements. Seven members and Pastor John Hanson met in the Fellowship Room at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010 with Diane Kongsjord hosting.

The March 4, 2010 Secretary’s Report was read by Secretary, Donna Bolstorff and was approved unanimously. Judy Trubenbach was stand-in Secretary last month and did an excellent job taking the minutes!

The Treasurer’s Report was read by Treasurer, Penny Smeby and approved unanimously. There is a balance of $1,399.35 in the checkbook. There is $1,523.35 in the saving account.

Old Business

Five members attended the Spring Gathering in Longville on the 18th. The amount of $21.65 worth of pennies was donated to the Outing Food Shelf. Next Gathering, the money will go to the Family Safety Network in Cass County which is a similar organization to Advocates for Family Peace.

There were 33 Fruit Baskets delivered to members and friends of Jesse Lake. It was so amazing and refreshing to have the Sunday school children help WELCA put them together. We offer our thanks to them for this service. Thank you notes from members and friends were passed around.

Fifty Health Kits were put together and will be delivered by Gloria Gordon when she goes to Minneapolis on April 21st. The Confirmation class helped put those together! We offer our thanks to them and Pastor John Hanson for this service. Putting Health Kits together is continuing all year long so donations are always welcome. Please place donations into the box in the Fellowship Room.

New Business

The Salad Luncheon Coordinator is Judy Trubenbach. The Salad Luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 21, 2010. The theme this year is ‘Tea Pots.’ Again, there will be a Raffle, Bake Sale and Vendors. Judy rented the Marcell Family Center on July 20th for set-up time. She will make the chart with jobs/food. An article will be placed in the Newsletter, Deer Path and Watts News.

If the new church is in construction mode we will need to box up the articles we want. Maybe we can store those items someplace close by (Baptist Church).

Confirmation will be held on Sunday, May 2, 2010.

Mother’s Day Breakfast was discussed. It will be May 9th. Further discussion will take place at the next WELCA meeting. Penny Smeby has a great recipe we could use called a French Bread Casserole. The Baptist Church has an old-fashioned kitchen like ours, if we need it.

June 3, 4 and 5, 2010 is the NE Women’s Synodical meeting in Duluth. Are there any members who would like to attend the one day event on Friday ($60,00) or attend as our WELCA delegate ($150.00) which WELCA will pay. Contact Gloria Gordon if you are interested. A reminder will be placed in the Bulletin and Newsletter. There will be three offerings taken and we voted unanimously to give something to Camp Knutson, a Developmentally Accessible Camp for youth near Brainerd; to Convention Fund for leadership activities and a Love Offering. We will discuss this further in May.

We moved and unanimously approved the motion to donate $35.00 to four JLLC children to attend a camp for K-2nd grade at Hiawatha.

Fisherman’s Bake Sale was discussed. We will do this on Saturday, May 15, 2010 somewhere on a lawn. Paulette Ojanen will take charge of this event and provide further details.

Gayle Heggem requested some help in moving boxes out of a mobile home unit she owns to a storage facility. She will provide further details within the next month or so.

At 9:30 a.m. on May 6, 2010 there will be All Day Quilting. And, also at 7 p.m. on May 6, 2010, the JLLC WELCA meeting will be held at Rhonda Nichols home.

Adjournment with the Lord’s Prayer occurred.

Pastor John Hanson presented an enlightening Bible Study.

Respectfully submitted,

Donna Bolstorff

WELCA Secretary
