Coordinator, Gloria Gordon opened the 7:00 p.m. meeting in the Fellowship Hall at Jesse Lake Lutheran Church, by reading together the Purpose and Mission statements. Seven members and Pastor John Hanson were present.
Bible Study was provided by Pastor John Hanson. We centered our meditation around the theme of ‘hospitality’. Together we read Deuteronomy 10:17-19; Matthew 9:10-13 and Matthew 28:18-20.
The Secretary’s Report from the May 6, 2010 meeting was read and approved.
The Treasurer’s Report for June 6, 2010 was read There is a checkbook balance of $1,039.12 and a saving account balance of 1,523.35. The total in both accounts is $2,562.47.
The Bake Sale for Open Fishing at the Marcell Store on Hwy 6 was discussed. Bake sale proceeds of $351.25 was deposited and a check to the Jesse Lake Building Fund was provided for the same amount. Paulette O., Judy T., Grace H. and Denyse T. were in charge of this event and were given thanks for all their hard work. The process for selling began with handmade signs that said: ‘You Choose’-- $3.00 for a dozen cookies; .$.25 for each Cookie; Bars, $4.00 a dozen; Muffins $1.00 for four; Sandwiches, Caramel Corn and Trail Mix $1.00 a bag; 6 loaves of bread @ $2.50; pies @ $5.00. No coffee was sold because there was coffee inside the store. There was a 6’ table, another table and a smaller one placed right in front of the store. They shut down at noon as most all items were sold. The leftovers were given to the Sunday School children for their lemonade stand at Lloyd’s Landscaping the next day.
The Northeastern Minnesota Synod Women’s Conference was to be held on June 3, 4, and 5th in Duluth. No representative went from Jesse Lake, but Jean Caldwell and Debbie Poenix attended from Suomi. Minga Elftmann attended as a scholarship recipient for those women from the ages of 18-45 who want a better understanding of the ELCA. A $50.00 Love Offering was provided by JLLC. There were 58 Health Kits and 15 Quilts that Gloria Gordon will soon take to Minneapolis.
New Business
The Salad Luncheon to be held on July 21 at the Marcell Family Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. was discussed. Judy T. is in charge of this event. She indicated that posters will be placed in the Fellowship Hall soon for persons to sign up for tasks and food. This year a Lemon Sunshine Cake will be made for dessert. Two large signs will be placed after July 4, 2010 in front of the Church and by Lloyd’s Landscaping to advertise this event. The theme is Tea Party so please bring your tea pot to the church by the 20th—a need for 20 of them was noted.
Father’s Day Brunch on June 20th. A poster has been placed in the Fellowship Hall for persons to sign up for food and tasks. A menu of egg bake, fruit, muffins, milk, coffee and orange juice will be provided. All fruit brought should be cut up.
It was pray fully noted that Diane Kongsjord was hospitalized, Pastor Vicki’s father recently passed away and Errol and Sandi Partlow will be leaving us at the end of June. A party for Sandi was to be held at the Pine Cone by the Monday Morning Coffee Club. All persons wanting to honor Sandi were invited to attend.
The next meeting will be held on July 1, 2010 at Penny Smeby’s home.
